The Lee Precision Taper Crimp Die for 9mm Luger, 38 Super, 38 ACP, and 380 Auto is a single die that performs a taper crimp on the case mouth. This is the correct operation for all pistol cartridges that headspace on the case mouth: the taper crimp closes the flare left by the expander by progressively tightening the neck onto the bullet, without creating the edge that a roll crimp would impose, which would compromise the fit in the chamber.

Separating the crimping from the seating is the most precise way to obtain uniform ammunition: the bullet is first brought to the desired depth and only afterwards is the case closed, preventing the bullet from being pushed while the neck is being tightened. Lee manufactures these dies from hardened steel and offers them as a solution to crimping problems caused by the inadequate design of other dies. The degree of crimp is adjusted by changing the height of the die in the press. Standard 7/8"-14 thread.

Recommended use

It screws into any press with a 7/8"-14 thread and is used in the station following seating, after deactivating the crimp on the seating die. This is the recommended crimp for straight-walled cartridges that headspace on the case mouth; for revolver cartridges with a crimp groove, a roll crimp or Factory Crimp Die is preferred instead.
