Double Alpha Academy Magnetic Powder Check

The DAA Magnetic Powder Check (U.S. Patent Pending) is a great addition to any progressive reloading machine, helping to ensure the quality and safety of reloaded ammunition.

The new unique design uses a high-tech Reed sensor and a magnet assembled on the plunger rod, to evaluate whether the charge in the case is at the correct height.

This original design also offers, for the first time, an adjustment option. By moving the reed sensor closer or further away from the magnet, you can determine the dust monitor's tolerance, or the amount of dust level variance that should be acceptable without sounding the alarm. At its maximum sensitivity, the accepted height variance is approximately 2 mm, which corresponds to a dust error of less than +-0.5 grains. This is more than sufficient to detect any of the errors we're checking for, such as a double charge, debris in the case, or a case without dust.

With the turn of a screw, you can increase the acceptable range by moving the sensor further inside the electrical box, making the Powder Checker more forgiving and less likely to raise alarms that may not be necessary.

The DAA Magnetic Powder Check mounts to a station immediately after the dropper by screwing it into a standard 7/8-14 threaded station. However, unlike other powder control systems, the DAA product does not require a dedicated hole through the tool head near the station! It can be used on ANY progressive loader that has a station available after the powder dropper.

A dust control requires the use of a station in the header, so if you don't currently have one available, you may need to combine your seating and crimp into one station using a 2-in-1 die/crimp die to free up a station. These are also available from DAA.

The DAA Magnetic Powder Check is activated by the top edge of the case rather than the base of the shell plate, meaning no alarm will sound if no case is present. The dust-sensing plunger enters the mouth of the case to rest over the charge and measure its height, sounding an alarm if the dust level is too low or too high. It provides both an audible signal and a red light when activated.

The DAA Magnetic Powder Check includes a spare short plunger, suitable for use with rifle ammunition. When using a rifle, simply replace the plunger and assemble the steel rod upside down, using the end without the shoe to fit into the mouth of the small case. The included parts make it suitable for use with all pistol ammunition (9mm and up) and rifle ammunition from .223 and up.
