Some types of primer are sticky. These may not flow well through the slots in the Primer Pro Disk or Exit Ramp. This can lead to slow exit speeds and poor ramp/exit hole performance.
A simple solution to this problem is to apply a little silicon to the primers before loading them into the Primer Pro, as shown here.
Another effective solution is to periodically clean/lubricate Primer Pro's plastic parts using a plastic cleaner/polish or a dry lubricant, such as Pledge, cockpit spray cleaner, or similar.
With one or the other solution applied, all types of small primers can be used successfully.
Double-Alpha’s PRIMER-PRO is a unique new approach to primer management that reloaders have been waiting for!
As any reloader knows, manually filling primer tubes can be the most time-consuming and aggravating step in the entire reloading process, and there are some good automated solutions.
Double-Alpha's PRIMER-PRO is an innovative, patent-pending design that departs from the traditional vibrating bowl solution used by all other automatic primer tube machines. The PRIMER-PRO uses a collator-type solution in which primers can exit the tank through 20 precisely formed channels ONLY if they are oriented in the correct direction (anvil-up). If they are anvil-down, they will not pass through the channel, but will instead slide back into the bowl when their channel reaches the top of the rotation, only to re-enter later, correctly oriented.
This waste-type design makes it virtually impossible for a primer to enter the outlet channel if incorrectly oriented, making this device extremely reliable. During development, we ran many successful tests in which 100 tubes (10,000 primers fed) were filled without a single primer flipping!
As the primers slide down the covered exit chute, they pass through an optical sensor that counts them and stops the collector after 100 primers have been counted into the primer tube. The processor's electronic board also monitors the sensor and is programmed to stop the collector if, for any reason, primers become stuck in the exit hole and pile up along the ramp. The collector will stop before the primers completely pile up and jam the collector. If this occurs, the LED will flash rapidly to indicate a problem. Once cleared, pressing the start button again will allow the collector to run and continue counting from where it left off. Alternatively, a long press on the button will start a new count.
One of the PRIMER-PRO's most innovative design solutions is the outlet actuator arm, which is activated by a system lever from the timing disk at the bottom of the collator assembly. This outlet actuator arm slides the primers from the bottom of the ramp, moving them to the outlet hole, holding them for a fraction of a second to ensure they are static, horizontal, and stable, then retracts to allow the base to drop cleanly into the waiting primer tube. This dynamic outlet hole solution significantly reduces the risk of primers breaking when exiting the tube, a common problem with other automated primer fillers.
The PRIMER-PRO is currently only available for smaller primers, and primers for small rifles or small pistols handle equally well. A large primer version may be offered in the future.
A magnetic collar for a Dillon primer tube is included with the unit. A PRIMER TUBE IS NOT INCLUDED! Since the PRIMER-PRO can fill a single primer tube faster than the previous 100 primers in any reloading press, only one tube is strictly necessary.
However, additional magnetic collars can be purchased separately for those who prefer to fill multiple tubes before starting the charging session.
The unit is powered by a 12V DC power supply (dual voltage, 110-230V), supplied with a suitable European and US prong set (included). The power cord is 2 meters (6 feet) long and includes an on/off switch in the cord.
NOTE: Primer tube not included.
