This helps loosen the tiny molybdenum particles that lodge in the micro-cavities of the steel barrels. These particles are the most dangerous because, through chemical reaction with air, they can transform into sulfuric acid and quickly corrode the metal. Once cleaned, the gun should be treated with Bore Tech gun oil or, better yet, the specific Shielded Rust, after applying the oil.
