The Leupold STD RVF two-piece bases act as the interface between the Remington 700 receiver and the rings that hold the scope: they define the position, height, and alignment of the optic, upon which zero retention under recoil and correct eye relief depend. The two-piece solution leaves the ejection port clear and reduces weight and bulk compared to a continuous rail. On the Standard system, the front ring rests on a dovetail mount that rotates into place, while the rear ring is held by two opposing windage screws.
