Lee Precision Universal Shell Holder #R8

The Lee Precision universal shell holder #R8 is the holder that secures the cartridge case head onto the press ram during decapping, resizing, priming, and bullet seating. It is the size specified by Lee for 33 WCF, 348 Winchester, 40-65 Winchester, 45-70 Government cases, and for cartridges with a similar base: without the correct number shell holder, the case will not remain aligned with the die.

Lee states that universal shell holders can be used in most reloading presses on the market; for their own presses, they are the ones used by the Reloader Press, Breech Lock Challenger, Classic Cast, Turret presses, and Breech Lock Hand Press. Compared to the shell holders for Hand Priming Tools, which share the same numbering, the universal version has a bottom shank that engages the press ram head: for this reason, the two types are not interchangeable. The number identifies a base diameter, not a single cartridge, so it covers all calibers that share that breech size.
